Cytogenetic Damage at Low Doses and the Problem of Bioindication of Chronic Low Level Radiation Exposure

چکیده
INTRODUCTION The problem of correct estimation of low-level exposure chronic irradiation biological consequences is one of the most important unsolved problem. It is actual for radiobiology and radioecology at the moment. The development of new concept of radiation protection of human and biota should be based on clear understanding of low-level chronic exposure biological consequences. The estimation of biological consequences of low-level chronic exposure is the difficult complex problem, including many unsolved problems of modern biology. In our report we shall stop only on some phenomena which we investigated and which, in our opinion, induced increased yield of cytogenetic damage in conditions of low dose chronic irradiation, namely: – non-linearity of the dose-effect dependence; – increased (per dose unit) efficiency of irradiation at low dose-rates; – non-linear (synergistic, antagonistic) effects of combined action of the different nature factors; – genome induceable replicative instability; – radioadaptation phenomenon.

Quantitation of genome damage and transcriptional profile of DNA damage response genes in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells exposed in vitro to low doses of neutron radiation
Background: Humans are exposed to ionizing radiation from different sources that include natural, occupational, medical, accidental exposures. Evaluation of the effect of low level of neutron exposure to human cells in vitro has important implications to human health. Attempts were made to measure genome damage, transcriptional profile of DNA damage response and repair genes in peripheral blood...
متن کاملRadiation hormesis and adoptive response induced by low doses of limiting radiation
Ionizing radiation has long been known to produce detrimental biological effects. Although these harmful effects are the results of high doses of exposure, some other maladies such as mutation and cancer seems to be induced at low doses of exposure. In recent decades, however, some pioneer scientists have indicated that ionizing radiation like many other essential agents has toxic effects ...
متن کاملActivation of Radioadaptive Response via Injected Serum of Irradiated Rats with Low Doses of Ionizing Radiation
Introduction: One of the protective concepts in the interpretation of radiation damage in radiobiology is the radioadaptive response. The objective of this present report is to evaluate the induction of radioadaptive response in male rats by injection of pre-irradiated serum with low doses X-radiation intraperitoneally. Materials and Methods: 80 male adul...
متن کاملAssessment of Radiation Exposure Levels and Associated Health Risks in Calabar Free Trade Zone, Nigeria
Introduction Exposure to chronic levels of ionizing radiation could be detrimental to health even at very low doses. Calabar free trade zone (CFTZ) was established to promote export business in Nigeria and it is yet to produce exposure data of the Zone. Materials and Methods The Zone was divided into three categories depending on the type of business. Category A had facilities with manufacturin...
متن کاملEvaluation of cytogenetic damage in nuclear medicine personnel occupationally exposed to low-level ionising radiation.
The aim of this study was to provide data on genetic hazards associated with occupational exposure to low doses of ionising radiation in nuclear medicine departments. The DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes of medical staff was assessed using the chromosome aberration test. Altogether 120 subjects (60 exposed and 60 controls) participated in the study. The exposed subjects showed signifi...
